Film Color

Reducing the grain that is found in the photographic film has been a problem since the creation of a film as we know.

What the grain of the film you ask? To be technical, the film grain is caused by crystals of silver halide light-sensitive emulsions photographs. Plus the film, the larger grain. More grain size, the more obvious the grain of the film becomes. Larger grains or crystals of halides money, give film a greater sensitivity to light. Therefore, the faster films have more grain.

Digital GEM is technology that was developed by a company called Applied Science Fiction. The GEM acronym actually stands for Grain Equalization & Management. What Digital GEM is that it analyzes grain pattern of a film, extracts all data related to image quality, color and sharpness, and removes the grain from the scanned image. The resulting images clearly improved. This is essentially equivalent Noise reduction in digital images.

So who can use this technology? I believe that this technology should always be used for any type of film frame is being scanned into digital format. When applied, this technology can significantly improve the overall quality of an image by reducing or, in some cases, remove the grain side altogether. With this technology in conjunction with other technologies and techniques for correcting your photos photographs may have the WOW factor that you've always dreamed of.

Even in the world of photography Digital Today, most photographers use a kind of technology to reduce noise up there to clean digital images. As part of my workflow I use regular Noise Ninja is an excellent product that can be used as a Photoshop plugin. It can be launched automatically, which is excellent for the execution of batch files or manual mode.

As part of my regular workflow when scanning in My personal pictures I always use Digital ICE and Digital GEM with a setting of 3 or 4 of 5. These parameters appear to work best to reduce film grain images.

Unlike Digital ICE, Digital GEM seems to work very well on black and white film and Kodachrome film. Digital ICE can not be used on film noir and white, unless it was developed in color, and reduced impact on Kodachrome film.

Digital GEM is considered part Group ICE4 digital technologies. Also included in this group are Digital ICE, which is used to remove surface defects, Digital ROC, which is used to restore and correct color, and Digital SHO, which is used to optimize the exposure and contrast. There are several scanners on the market today that use this technology today. These include the Nikon Coolscan 5000 and 9000 Series scanners film that we use and the flatbed Epson 4990 that we use for scanning photographs and large format negatives and positives.

Color Motion Picture Film Color Motion Picture Film
$62.21

Color motion picture film refers to motion pictures in color. The first motion pictures were made with silver halide-based photographic emulsion on a clear base. The resulting image was projected in a range of blacks to whites, depending on the luminous intensity of the original subject. With color motion picture film, not only is the luminance of a subject recorded, but the color of the subject, too. Whether the color is photographed on separate pieces of film or within the same emulsion, all color photography is synthesized through various parts of the image recording discrete spectra of light. The earliest motion picture stocks were orthochromatic and recorded cyan light, but not red light. Recording all three major wavelengths of light required making film stock panchromatic to some degree.
