Beauty Beast
How many of you watched Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid, Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast growing up?
Did you know that the stories of Prince Charming? I did. In fact, these tales laid the foundations of my beliefs about true love.
As a teenager, music continued forming my views towards life, especially music that supported my convictions about true love. Words wrapped in music that uses my emotions, told the truth for me.
In the spring of 1964, Betty Everett made clear to me how to recognize true love. The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss) have captured my heart. I had a crystal clear instructions to find true love that I immediately tested.
My young impressionable mind has accepted with gratitude all the words of love song I've heard, especially those of artists popular. Music Lyrics prepared me for what I need to know about search and find my prince.
When I met and married my prince charming, I heard the birds singing. My fairy tale came true.
Until … disagreements, arguments, financial unwanted pregnancies, material desires unmet, and lack of personal attention to me. Suddenly, my prince did not seem princely as before.
During this time, I met a gentle and soft voice and who quietly listened to all my complaints. Never she did not concentrate on my prince tarnished or agree with me. Instead, she asked: "Do you know Jesus Christ and you've invited into your heart?
My initial reaction, and the second, third, fourth and fifth – "She's crazy! What does knowing Jesus or calling in my heart has to do with my marriage?
Years later on the radio, I heard Dr. George Kenworthy. Whenever couples came to him for marital advice, he asked three questions:
- Do you think there is a God?
- Are you ready to apply the principles of the Word of God in your life and your marriage? (If not, the marriage fails.)
- Are you willing to pray that the Spirit of God will give you hope and power that I know you do not save your marriage?
Both my friend and Dr. George Kenworthy focused on my spiritual foundation, rather than my marriage. Should I accept their advice and trust that God would bring about a change in me and my marriage or if I continue to believe the promises of words? Music felt good, so do I welcome that advice agrees with my beliefs. Could God trust compare to what I already had? In reading the Bible, I came across Matthew 11:28-30: "Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and ye shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light. "
I could not get my prince and I do not know how to change. I was weary and burdened, and needed rest. I accepted Jesus offer.
Jesus dealt with me, not my prince. I came to know and love God the Bible as well as myself. The Word of God became what I counted on and trusted. When I reminded my prince's faults and failures, I realized that according to the Word of God, I was not better.
Over time, I understood the concept of the grace of God. Initially, I reluctantly gave to others, until I realized a great love of God for me. Only then did I give freely what God has freely given me.
My prince is still my prince, but God is my true love. He is the one who taught me what love is is real and how he acts.
